From 9 – 10 June, EMVCo is hosting its annual EMV® User Meeting, which this year is scheduled to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. In this post, Oliver Manahan, EMVCo Director of Engagement and Operations, offers a preview of the key topics that Associates and Subscribers don’t want to miss.

Against the backdrop of a rapidly changing payment technology landscape, EMVCo remains committed to collaborating with the payment community to develop and evolve EMV® technologies, creating specifications that support innovation and address emerging industry needs.

The EMV User Meeting is a valuable and unique gathering that furthers this commitment, enabling both EMVCo Associates and Subscribers across different areas of the payment ecosystem to come together, learn and network.

Here are three topics we expect to drive discussion:

  1. Agentic payments. EMVCo is working on how global specifications can support innovation in card-based agentic payment solutions by increasing trust and interoperability across the ecosystem, with a dedicated Agentic Payments Task Force created to define EMVCo’s approach.
  2. Digital Payment Credentials (DPC). EMVCo is defining a DPC that establishes a common, interoperable way of using verifiable digital credentials (VDCs) in online card-based payments. VDCs are digital representations of the physical credentials used in everyday life, such as an identity card, driver’s license, diploma, or proof of age. Commonly held and secured in a digital wallet on a smartphone, they can be presented in-person or online and verified cryptographically.[1]
  3. Quantum computing. Engaging with leading academics, independent consultants, and government bodies, EMVCo is charting developments and assessing the impact of quantum computing on RSA (Rivest, Shamir and Adleman) and ECC (Elliptic-Curve Cryptography), and exploring future mitigation strategies.

The meeting will also cover an array of other business-critical and established topics. This includes enhancements to the EMV 3-D Secure (3DS) Specifications to simplify solution development and deployment, defining emerging EMV Secure Remote Commerce (SRC) use cases beyond e-commerce and electric vehicle (EV) charging, and updates to EMV Payment Tokenisation to support new scenarios.

Attendees will also hear about EMVCo’s work to advance the EMV Chip Specifications and testing processes to address emerging in-store payment experiences – such as biometric payment cards and TapToMobile acceptance.

Interested? It’s not too late to register.
