Wearable Level 1 Approval Process

EMVCo defines a “wearable” as a chip- or host card emulation (HCE)-based product that is incorporated into an item of clothing or accessory that supports proximity payment. The approval process follows the approval process for Mobile Level 1.

Process Summary

Mobile Level 1 approval is granted to a wearable product designed to support NFC-based payment (e.g. a watch used for proximity payment). Wearable products follow the same approval process, including prerequisites and fees, as any other mobile product, although some specific criteria may be used for analogue and interoperability.
