EMV® 2nd Generation

The EMV® 2nd Generation (2nd Gen) Specifications are a redesign of payment acceptance specifications to promote a flexible common technology platform. 2nd Gen's flexible modular terminal design supports various transaction environments, transaction flows and communications protocols; while also updating EMV® payment security. And 2nd Gen enables integrated testing and type approval processes by having a single kernel supporting a variety of interfaces.

Approved Products

The list of Approved Products indicates EMVCo acknowledgement that a specified product has demonstrated sufficient conformance to the EMV® 2nd Generation Specification for its stated purpose.

This is a list of companies that have been certified as providing a service or tool relevant to obtaining 2nd Gen product approvals – such as Labs, Test Tool providers, etc.

ID Registrations

The 2nd Generation Specifications include the following identifiers, for which the registration processes will be defined at a later date:

  • Interface ID
  • Cardholder Verification (CV) Method ID
  • Cardholder Verification Entry Device (CVED) Data Encryption Algorithm ID
  • Cryptographic Algorithm Suite ID

Get Involved

Draft Specifications and Bulletins are shared with EMVCo Associates and Subscribers, who provide feedback and submit Queries.  They are also eligible to attend relevant meetings to discuss the Specifications.
