The EMV® 2nd Generation (2nd Gen) Specifications are a redesign of payment acceptance specifications to promote a flexible common technology platform. 2nd Gen's flexible modular terminal design supports various transaction environments, transaction flows and communications protocols; while also updating EMV® payment security. And 2nd Gen enables integrated testing and type approval processes by having a single kernel supporting a variety of interfaces.
