Approvals & Certification
Terminal Type Approval
EMVCo established the Terminal Type Approval process to create a mechanism to test compliance with the EMV Specifications. Type Approval provides an increased level of confidence that interoperability and consistent behavior between compliant applications have been achieved.EMVCo Type Approval testing is divided into two levels. The Level 1 Type Approval process tests compliance with the electromechanical characteristics, logical interface, and transmission protocol requirements defined in the EMV Specifications. Level 2 Type Approval tests compliance with the debit/credit application requirements as defined in the EMV Specifications. Please visit the Terminal Type Approval section of the site for more information.
Security Evaluation
The EMVCo Security Evaluation Process is intended to provide EMVCo Members' Issuers with valuable and practical information relating to the general security performance characteristics and the suitability of use for smart card related products and IC (integrated circuits) chip-based tokens. The EMVCo Security Evaluation Process is designed to ensure a robust security foundation for these products at the product family and component level. Please visit the Security Evaluation section of the site for more information
Card Type Approval
EMVCo established the Card Type Approval process to create a mechanism to test compliance with the EMV and CPA Specifications. The Card Type Approval process provides an increased level of confidence that interoperability and consistent behavior between compliant applications have been achieved.
Separate Card Type Approval processes have been defined for CCD (cards implementing the Common Core Definitions (CCD) specifications, which are a part of EMV specifications), and CPA (cards implementing the EMV and Common Payment Application (CPA) specifications.) Please visit the Card Type Approval section of the site for more information.
