EMVCo Associates Programme Overview

Help Shape the Future of Global Payments

EMV is the global payment industry standard with an increasing number of stakeholders worldwide. The EMVCo Associates Programme was launched in March 2010 to engage the payments community in the standardisation work of the organisation. The goal is to allow external stakeholders to help shape the future of global payments. External contributions will facilitate the continued global adoption of the EMV standard through increased accessibility and understanding of the technology.

The EMVCo Associates Programme allows all payment industry stakeholders to play an active role in providing input to the organisation's strategic and technical direction. It creates unique opportunities for interested organisations, including payment card issuers, acquirers, merchants, processors, card and terminal vendors, networks and their representative associations, to provide input into the enhancement of existing and creation of future EMV Specifications for payment technologies.

Two participation types are available. Organisations that meet qualifying criteria for both types may participate at both levels:

  • Business Associate participation enables organisations to provide EMVCo with input on strategic business and implementation issues related to the use of the EMV Specifications. To be eligible, an organisation must be a 'Payment Service Provider', otherwise defined as payment card issuers and acquirers, carrying the risk of payment transactions, as well as their representative associations and networks.

  • Technical Associate participation enables organisations to provide input and receive feedback on detailed technical and operational issues connected to the EMV Specifications and related processes. Technical Associates engage with all eight of EMVCo's technical working groups and receive updates/provide input on their activities.
